WE’RE NEARLY READY…
Not too much build-up in Nyon, and we’re just about ready to get underway.
We’ll also have the draw for the final, deciding which semi-final victors will be the ‘home side’ in Lyon on May 16.
WENGER PRAISE FOR WELBECK
Arsene Wenger has praised Danny Welbeck and believes he is a player who can turn more matches in Arsenal’s favour after his goal against CSKA Moscow.
“I would say, above all, the qualities of Danny Welbeck… when your back’s against the wall, he looks like he has that extra special motivation in his body and in his head, that can give you something special.
“That’s something really exceptional and that you do not find in many players.”
Can they go all the way to Lyon? The draw is around 15 minutes away!
‘CSKA MADE MY HEART BEAT FAST’
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he was worried about progressing against CSKA Moscow with the Russians 2-0 up at one stage.
Diego Costa was forced off with a thigh injury during Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 Europa League defeat by Sporting Lisbon.
Atletico progressed from their quarter-final 2-1 on aggregate against the Portuguese side, but former Chelsea striker Costa left the field in the 52nd minute, seemingly holding his left thigh.
Costa has had thigh injury issues in the past, and Atletico manager Diego Simeone says his issue will be assessed in Madrid on Friday.
IN THE BOWL
That’s right… the consensus is Arsenal must avoid Atletico, who have proven themselves as masters over two legs in Europe over recent years.
Red Bull Salzburg and Marseille are also in the bowl, but both sides came through dramatic second-leg fixtures last night, fighting back from three goals down on both occasions. They’ll be on a high.
Arsenal must avoid Atletico Madrid at all costs in Friday’s Europa League draw, according to Mark Schwarzer.
