No less than 15 detainees have gotten away in an escape that happened at Nsukka Jail in Enugu state.
Citing a source at the jail, NAN said the detainees broke their cells and scaled over the border fence late Tuesday.
“The detainees painstakingly opened their cells and scaled the border wall of the jails,” the source was accounted for as saying.
“Before jail authorities on night obligation realized what was occurring, around 15 detainees had gotten away.”
Lawrence Okonkwo, controller of jail, affirmed the escape however declined to give the quantity of detainees that got away.
“Yes there was an escape the previous evening in Nsukka jail yet I am not in a position to say what number of detainees got away,” he said.
“We are expecting the Enugu state detainment facilities controller, Mr Isaiah Amariri, in Nsukka jail with the goal that we brief him on what happened the previous evening.
“He will be the one to tell people in general the quantity of detainees that got away from, the re-captured ones and endeavors set up to capture those still on the run.”
In any case, unsubstantiated reports say that two escapees had been rearrested.
Authorities of the Nigeria Penitentiaries Administration were found in parts of Nsukka and its environs on Wednesday scanning for escaping prisoners.
