The tech giant is continuing it’s support for HIV/AIDS research.
Beyond Apple’s immersive takeover of the tech industry, with an arsenal of gadgets that have slowly revolutionized how people experience and communicate with one another, the company has its feet firmly planted in philanthropic endeavours. (PRODUCT)RED merchandise, an initiative that Apple has supported for years, have infiltrated the consumer market as a method in raising crucial funds to help combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, two incurable health concerns that are still alarmingly persistent in that geographic region.
Rumours began to circulate earlier this year as to whether or not Apple would show continued support for this crucial cause and release a special edition iPhone 8 and 8Plus rendered in a recognizable shade of altruistic red. However, the California-based tech juggernaut has officially announced plans to unleash the latest iteration for their line of (PRODUCT)RED-inspired gadgets earlier this morning.
In a press statement, the company notes how a “portion of proceeds for all (PRODUCT)RED purchases go directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counseling, treatment and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. Since partnering with (RED) in 2006, Apple has donated more than $160 million to the Global Fund, serving as the organization’s largest corporate donor.”
Pre-orders will begin on April 10 and are expected to hit online and physical retailers starting April 13.
