Apple Purchases Shazam For Reportedly $400 Million

Apple continues to dominate the world in every aspect. Whether it’s home technology to streaming services, they’ve made the right acquisitions over their existence that continuously push their brand forward and maintain it’s position at the top. Last week, news surfaced that Apple would be buying Shazam and today, they’ve officially confirmed the acquisition.

Apple Music has officially purchased Shazam, TechCrunch reports. While they say Apple Music hasn’t disclosed exactly how much they’ve paid for the company, TechCrunch says their sources have confirmed they purchased it for around the $400M mark. The deal has reportedly been a work in progress for five months at this point and both Snapchat and Spotify were also involved in the bidding war.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple didn’t reveal exactly what they’d be using Shazam for but they did say they have exciting things planned for the future. They also revealed that Shazam has been one of Apple’s most popular apps for iOS since they launched their App Store.

They report that the vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, saw Shazam as an opportunity to help continue build Apple’s lane in the music industry. In addition to that, Shazam has already worked heavily with Apple Music after referring its users to listen to music on their streaming service as well as allowing users to get music off their app directly from the iTunes store.
