Apple recently acquired innovative application Shazam in a deal estimated to have cost $400 Million. The move was initially announced back in December of 2017, but negotiations had not yet been finalized. Snapchat and Apple were both bidding for the application, with Apple emerging victorious.
Since its emergence, Shazam has reportedly been downloaded approximately 1 billion times by users across the globe. With its unique design, the app enables users to identify, discover and share content ranging from songs to videos. It is estimated that the app is used about 20 million times a day. Apple’s acquisition of the app is no doubt a well-informed move on their part.
Reports have surfaced that the silicon valley giant plans to make the popular application free of advertisements for all its users. Owners of Android devices will also benefit from the acquisition and can expect to use the application without interruption from advertisers in the near future. Apple Music’s vice president Oliver Schusser shared the following, “Apple and Shazam have a long history together. Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and has become a favorite app for music fans everywhere.” He went on to say, “With a shared love of music and innovation, we are thrilled to bring our teams together to provide users even more great ways to discover, experience and enjoy music.”
